My name is Sandra Akiiki, I am a visual artist. My paintings are a series of brushstroke observations portraying the shifting patterns of life and the beauty of everyday living. They offer an emotional lense into my relationship with colour, form and texture, exploring themes of introspection, identity, visibility and human connection. I hope my work invites the viewer into tender moments of care, memory and community that encourages and inspire them to appreciate their own stories. Bright bold colours and textures are juxtaposed to portray emotional resonance and act as a storytelling device. Vibrant backgrounds and nature themes suggest a re-interrogation of life’s mystery and our spiritual relationship with creation. The use of burlap, a materials once disregarded, is now celebrated as a rich tool of expression telling a story of resourcefulness, environmental consciousness, but also examines the cycle of production, consumption, and sustainability. I believe Art is a catalyst that has the potential to challenge societal perceptions and narratives. I invite the viewer to bring their personal experiences and interpretations.
